Welcome To The Speech & Hearing Center Family

Our team has been helping the Tennessee Valley community overcome communication disorders for nearly 7 decades. We were founded by the Siskin family in May 1953 to provide diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for people with hearing and speech impairments and to promote education and research related to communication disorders.

We exist to improve quality of life in our area. We’re there for first steps, first words and for the first time people hear in decades. And we ensure all individuals have access to the services and equipment they need, regardless of their ability to pay.

our mission

Enhancing Communication. Enriching Lives.

We’ve been serving the community since 1953. We’re an integral resource for the region, providing services for all ages and income levels. We have a sliding fee scale for the un or under-insured who cannot afford services. And for those who can, a portion of every service or product purchase assists those in our area who would otherwise not be able to afford therapy or hearing devices.

The Need We Meet

Communication disorders are surprisingly common and not everyone may know that they are struggling. Did you know:

  • 5-10% of all Americans have some form of communication disorder
  • 1 in 5 Americans have hearing loss in at least 1 ear

When left untreated, communication disorders can negatively impact you or your child’s life in many ways, such as contributing to behavioral problems, lags in academic achievement, and potential unemployment along with loss of wages. There’s also a strong link between an increase in health and safety issues and communication disorders.

By choosing us, you’re helping to minimize the effects of communication disorders on education, employment and social wellbeing in our community.
